    34. POST- Pleistocene glacial history of Dinaric Alps (coastal mountains and islands in Croatia)

Lj. Marjanac (Cro. Acad. Sci. Arts) and T. Marjanac (Faculty of Science, Uni. Zagreb) 6 days, 900 €, Rome – Rijeka – Zadar – Rome

The fieldtrip route will track remarkable evidence of the Middle Pleistocene glaciation of the Croatian part of Dinarides (eastern Adriatic coast and islands). Participants will visit and inspect outcrops on the Platak Mt. and in Grobnik Polje, on the islands of Krk and Rab, in the Velika Paklenica canyon (National Park), along the inland Novigrad Sea coast and northeastern part of the Ravni Kotari plateau and Bukovica. According to sedimentological evidence glaciers have descended even below the present sea-level and deposited tills that are locally preserved along the coast of Velebit Channel, Novigrad Sea and Karin Sea. The sedimentary features to inspect are: lodgement tills, erratic blocks, kame terraces, ice wedge casts, glacial outwash facies, proglacial lacustrine sediments, proglacial deltaic systems
